Books and Blizzards Due to the approaching blizzard, the North Haven Library will be closed on Monday, February 23rd. We encourage everyone to stay home, keep warm, check our website and read a great book.  So what exactly is a blizzard? A blizzard is not just a heavy snowfall. It is a specific type of severe winter storm defined by strong, sustained winds of at least 35 miles per hour and blowing or falling snow that reduces visibility to a quarter mile. These conditions must last over a period of at least three hours to be considered a blizzard. The danger often comes less from the amount of snow and more from the wind and whiteout conditions, which can make travel disorienting and unsafe. There are plenty of books on weather to learn more about blizzards. When the library opens again, think about coming in and checking out a book on blizzards or weather in general.
