Write for the Blog

Starting August 26th, 2024, teens who meet our volunteer criteria can submit up to four blog posts per month for a total of four community service hours. This is equal to volunteering once per week in-person at the library!

Am I eligible?

Eligible teens must North Haven residents OR North Haven Public School students in grades 6-12. Not sure if you meet these requirements? Email us at teen@northhavenlibrary.net to check with a librarian.

I meet these requirements! How does this work?

If you're ready to start writing, follow these steps:

  • Reach out to the Teen Department via email (teen@northhavenlibrary.net) to introduce yourself if you haven't already. We just want a quick message to let us know you're interested in submitting blog posts for virtual volunteer hours. We've met most of you already, but if you're new here, we'd love to say hello!
  • Write a blog post. Posts should be between 200 and 400 words and feature something related to the library. Visit the "Labels" section in the left sidebar for topic ideas and example posts. We'd love to hear what you think of our online resources, what ideas you may have for new programs, thoughts about the latest books you've read, and anything else along these lines. If you're really unsure of what to write, please email us or come to an office hour (Thursdays between 3-4). We'll help you figure out some topics that both interest you and the library.
  • Email your completed post to teen@northhavenlibrary.net with your name, grade, and a catchy post title. A librarian will proofread your work then post it to the blog.
That's it! If you'd like to include a picture related to your post, feel free, but pictures aren't necessary.

Remember to keep track of how many posts you submit (aka how many hours you earn), but we'll keep track too.

Last thing before we send you into the brainstorm: Each post will be credited to you with your first name, last initial, and grade number, ex. Nora H., Grade 10. If you'd prefer your blog post to remain anonymous, please let us know in your intro email.

Happy Writing :) - NHML Teen Department
