Daylight Savings
On March 9, 2025, our clocks jumped ahead one hour marking the beginning of another daylight savings time season. But why? What is the point of moving our clocks one hour ahead? It seems like it would just be a nuisance and cause people to lose track of time, resulting in them potentially missing events or waking up too early for something. Imagine waking up 1 hour late for school and not even realizing it!
What Is The Purpose Of Daylight Savings Time Anyway?
The purpose of daylight savings time is to make better use of daylight during the warmer months to optimize agricultural production. This makes it seem more reasonable but many people still do not support the change in time.
Daylight Savings Time’s History
Daylight savings time was first used in the United States in 1918. It was meant to be a way to save fuel during World War I. It was removed after World War I and reinstated during World War II for the same reason. Daylight savings time was properly organized in 1966, and since 2005 it has started on the second Sunday of March and ended on the first Sunday in November.
Will Daylight Savings Time Ever Get Removed?
Currently, Arizona and Hawaii are the only states that don't recognize daylight savings time.
They argue that it can disrupt people’s built-in routines and be an overall big inconvenience. It is unclear whether or not daylight savings time will get removed or stay in place in the future.
So what do you think about daylight savings time? Do you love it, hate it, or not really care?
