How to Prepare for Warm Weather

The weather is warming up North Haven, are you feeling excited? I know it can get a bit overwhelming at first if you aren’t prepared, so here are a few ways to handle the heat!

Wear light-colored clothing

This may seem like a myth or just an over exaggeration, but it really does make a difference! Darker colors absorb more heat, that’s why you feel hotter wearing them. This was even caught by the Navy, and is the reason why most uniforms today are white. Keep this in mind when you buy your summer wardrobe this year!

Stay hydrated

Water, water, water! I would even recommend getting your own water bottle and carrying it around with you! Some good brands are Hydroflasks and Camelbak, but there is an endless market to pick from. Water helps cool your internal system down, and helps you sweat easier. It basically keeps your body running. If you want to go the extra mile, consider adding electrolytes to your water for even more positive impacts on your health!

Find shelter

I know the warm weather might be exciting and make you want to go outside, but once it starts getting SUPER hot around July—you might want to consider staying home. If you don’t want to use your AC, then come over to the library! It’s air conditioned, and offers tons of free and interesting activities to check out. If that’s not your thing, you can always cool down by yourself with a good book.

Remember to stay updated, and check that weather app every night before bed so you can dress appropriately for the weather conditions. The temperature will be heating up fast, and it’s vital you stay prepared. Good luck— and don't forget sunscreen!
