The Inheritance Games Review

 

        The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is an amazing trilogy that follows high schooler Avery Grambs as she gets an unexpected letter that alters her life. Smart, pretty, kind, and living with her sister while struggling financially is how Avery spends her high school years. She is used to being overlooked by her teachers and pretty much every other person in her life, until a mysterious stranger shows up at her school in a suit, stating that his billionaire grandfather has Avery in his will. Not long after, Avery is whisked away to a multi-billion dollar mansion in Texas to be a part of the reading of billionaire Tobias Hawthorn’s will. She learns (along with the rest of the family), that she will inherit all of his properties and most of his money, as long as she lives in his house with his four young grandsons for a year. Avery went from living in her car on most nights and being ignored by almost everyone in her life, to being granted billions of dollars from a deceased stranger (who she has never met and has no idea who he is). This first book of the trilogy follows Avery as she and the four Hawthorne grandsons uncover dozens of secrets about her past along with their own, and try to figure out why their grandfather had left his whole fortune to a random girl. 

        This book is so beautifully written, with everything being connected in one way or another, and everything is done on purpose. Each page is a work of art, and secrets upon secrets are uncovered enough to last a lifetime, and certainly enough to keep you flipping pages.
